Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers!
Although, come to think of it, my American readers aren’t likely to see this, since you’re all busy with Thanksgiving!
So for all my fellow Canadians, fellow members of the Commonwealth, and those who read me from all over the world who AREN’T celebrating Thanskgiving right now, I thought I’d just take a moment and invite us to stand in solidarity with our American cousins and be thankful.
We may not be celebrating a big holiday, but I hope that with Thanksgiving in the media we’re at least drawn towards thankfulness. I know I am. I’m thankful for my kids, and I’m thankful that they’ve found great men to love them and to love in return.
I’m thankful for my mom who lives with us now and who vacuums my house. 🙂 Plus she’s busy planning a missions trip to Kenya that we’re all going on this summer (my mom and my hubby are leading it; it’s mostly a medical team but with a lot of us non-medical people, too!).
Here she is last week during Fight the Frump week. But she looks this put together everyday!
I’m thankful for some wonderful friends who came over and had a small group with me this week (the first of many). Keith and I have been trying to get into a small group for years and it’s never worked for us, and finally I decided that I didn’t really need new friends. I just needed to spend time with the ones I already had. So I invited a whole bunch of friends over for an impromptu get together, and only 3 came. But more will next time. And it was a great first of many.
And most of all, I’m thankful for my husband right now. I wrote this week on 13 dumb things people believe about marriage, and one of those beliefs is that marriage is always really, really hard. I’m thankful that today both my husband and I find it quite easy (though that was not always the case!)
(That’s us on our amazing anniversary trip with Hillwalk Tours! So fun!).
I’m at a good place in life right now. It’s busy, but it’s a good busy. I’m happy for my daughters. I know that life will not always be easy, and I know that there will be challenges ahead. But I’m grateful for this phase right now, and I’m trying to tell myself more to take time to breathe and enjoy it!
I’m thankful for this amazing “job” I have here on this blog, and how I get to interact with you all. I actually enjoy it more each year.
And I’m grateful that God keeps whispering to me and keeps wooing me, even when I get busy and feel as if I don’t listen to Him enough for a time, He’s always there. He doesn’t tell me to get my act together first before I pick up the Bible; He just invites me into His presence. That’s wonderful. I hope I can be a parent like that, too.
What are you thankful for today? And for those of you who aren’t Canadian or American, do you have a holiday like Thanksgiving? If so, when is it? (And tell me what country you’re from in the comments, too!)

Similar, but different – thankful that my kids are all growing up into confident, God-loving people. Thankful that they aren’t looking for “dates” yet, but have large circles of friends that include boys and girls.
And thankful that, this year anyway, we don’t have anyone with major health issues.
So thankful for God, Christ, my husband and our beautiful children, the family I was born into, my in-laws, and the wonderful life God blessed me with!
On a side note, your mom’s coat is lovely! I love bright colors!
In no particular order: I am thankful that I am single. I am thankful for my two closest friends in all the world, my sister and my mother. They’re not allowed to die, lol, I don’t know what I’d do without them. I am thankful to be here, growing ever stronger in spirit, with God’s help. I am thankful for the delicious cup of tea I had this morning. I am thankful for my sweet little old cat, who loves me with all her heart and who would spend all her hours (waking or otherwise) in my lap, if she could.
Thanks Sheila. Rarely I miss a day checking in on your blog holiday or not. It has become a staple in my spiritual diet that I use as a directive – sometimes it is something you write. Sometimes it is a comment fom others and sometimes it is a resource you may direct us too. I am Thankful we are at our house as a family for the first time ever. Grace and I have never been at our own home for Thanksgiving ever. No travel – yeah! Grateful for my wife Grace and our new found marriage foundation. Grateful for my crazy kids and Grateful to be in a place in life where God can reel me in when I stray. Have a good day ALL.
I am thankful that God loves me no matter what – no matter what I do or say, He still just loves me. And I am thankful that because He loves me, He will never give up on me. He is my guide and my constant companion in this life – even when I don’t acknowledge Him.
I am thankful that God has blessed me with the most amazing, kindest husband.
I am thankful that God has blessed me with the most inspiring, gregarious little person to be my little person.
I am thankful that God has blessed me with a beautiful home, garden, a good job, wonderful friends…
We may not have much in terms of wealth – but we (my little family of three) are blessed beyond what we deserve.
And it is only due to God’s kind grace…
