What if essential oils could help your libido?
About 10 years ago I bought a ton of essential oils. A friend and I were busy making bath oils and bath bombs and other luscious things to sell at craft fairs, and I got hooked.
Since then I’ve loved my oils, but I’ve never actually known much of what to do with them, aside from them making the house smell nice.
But I’ve been looking into how essential oils can affect us in so many ways, and lo and behold, they can actually be very good at boosting your libido! Shana Smith, a natural health specialist, has written me a post on the best essential oils to give your libido a kick in the pants, and I’m excited to run it for you today (and to get out my essential oil diffuser and move it to the bedroom!)
But first, I’m so excited to tell you about the Herbs and Essential Oils super-bundle, available Wednesday, June 22 until Monday June 27 at midnight (and then it’s gone forever!).
It’s over $400 of ebooks and ecourses that will teach you everything you need to know about using essential oils and herbs in your home–how to stop reaching for chemicals, and start reaching for what’s natural!

Low libido can take a serious toll on a marriage. As women get older and hormones begin to change, they may find that their desire for sex begins to wane. Energy levels plummet and very often, the lack of energy accounts for lack of desire. When women show a lack of sexual interest, their husband may feel unattractive and unwanted. Thankfully, there are steps couples can take to get their spark back. Aromatherapy can boost libido and bring the fire back into any relationship. These essential oils have the power to boost the sex drive of men and women alike.
Cinnamon Oil for Libido
While cinnamon is frequently used to add spice to a meal, it can also be used to spice up a sexual relationship. Researchers have found that the scent of cinnamon can increase blood flow to the penis. It can also help out ladies with a low sex drive. Cinnamon has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries.
Although cinnamon is effective, it doesn’t always work immediately. Couples should start using the scent early in the night. Long, luxurious cinnamon oil massages are the perfect way to start a night full of passion.
Ylang Ylang Oil
While people experience a loss of libido for a number of reasons, one of the primary culprits is stress. People are so overwhelmed by their jobs and responsibilities that they just can’t relax at the end of the night.
Ylang Ylang oil can help even the most tightly-wound people kick back and relax. It can bring blood pressure down, and bring skin temperatures up. Diffusing this oil can give couples a chance to reconnect and make the most of the time they have with each other.
Rose Oil and Libido
Many people see roses as the most romantic flower in the world. People give roses to their loved ones on holidays, and rose-imagery can be found on a variety of mushy cards. However, it’s not just the appearance of roses that makes people associate them with love. The smell of roses can also induce feelings of romance. Rose oil has a strong anxiolytic effect, which allows people to feel less inhibited in the bedroom.
In addition, the right smell can bring back happy memories. Because roses are associated with romantic holidays, the scent of rose oil can remind couples of happier times.
Jasmine Oil
Jasmine is an exotic flower, so it’s no surprise that the scent of jasmine oil can induce passion. Its rich, flowery scent has strong seductive properties, which is why it’s commonly used in women’s perfume. In India, jasmine oil has been used to treat low libido for centuries.
In modern times, researchers have also found a strong link between the scent of jasmine and increase in sex drive. Inhaling jasmine can have a stimulating effect on both men and women. This oil can improve blood flow, increase body temperature, and give men a much-needed libido boost.
Sandalwood Oil
While few people would associate the woody scent of sandalwood oil with romance, it has been shown to have very alluring properties. In fact, many cultures have been using this oil to treat impotence for centuries.
Women also respond very well to the scent of sandalwood. It has a relaxing effect, but can also help to increase blood flow. Ladies who catch a whiff of sandalwood are likely to experience strong feelings of arousal shortly after.
A loss of libido is not something that people should just accept. As we get older, it can be more difficult to become aroused and to get in the mood. Men and women can both increase their sex drive naturally by using aromatherapy. Sexual intimacy is a vital part of any relationship. Couples should do all they can to maintain a healthy sex life to keep the fires burning and to stay connected.

Great information! But what do you actually DO with the essential oils? You can add a few drops to a plain massage oil or almond oil. But my preference is to use an essential oil diffuser. You just add about 1/2 cup of water, and then around 4-6 drops of oil, and it fills the air for the next 2-3 hours. It’s amazing! I use a blend during the day that helps me to concentrate, and then one at the end of the day that helps me to relax. But tonight I’ll add some sandalwood for something else!
Take a look at some diffusers here.
Have you ever used essential oils at your home? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
PS–Don’t forget to take a look at the Herbs and Essential Oils Bundle! Everything you need to boost your libido, your immunity, even your mood–all naturally. Don’t miss it!
I love using essential oils, but it might be appropriate to add a caution as well. The sentence about “a long, luxurious cinnamon oil massage” made me cringe–cinnamon oil BURNS. It should be diluted very heavily in a good carrier before coming anywhere close to your skin. Otherwise your romantic massage may turn out to instead be a party of mutual sympathy. 🙂 BTW, if you do accidentally get undiluted oils on your skin, immediately apply a carrier oil and soap, then wash it off. And I assume this goes without saying, but please don’t use essential oils directly on the genitals. It doesn’t make for happy sexy times. 😛
Oh, great point! Yes, you should use like a drop or two of essential oils mixed with a tablespoon of carrier oil, so that you don’t get that problem!
I read somewhere about an edible massage oil with orange, cinnamon leaf and cardamom. The cinnamon leaf oil was specified precisely because of the burn problem.
However, because I hate the smell of cinnamon leaf, I went ahead and used cinnamon bark, but just added it a drop at a time to the carrier and tested it on my skin between drops to make sure it didn’t cause any problems. It worked great, even in very sensitive areas! I think with some very careful tinkering it might be used to create an edible “warming” massage oil.
Any recommendations for boosting libido caused by pregnancy and nursing? It’s basically been our whole marriage (got pregnant first month we got married and had symptoms really early, and have been nursing or pregnant everyday since.).
This is excellent! I have found that certain fragrance does ramp up the spiciness in our home. However, I’ve learned to stay away from clove oil, at least on my skin. Clove has a deadening effect and that’s not good for the end result. 😉
Thanks for this steamy info.
I will DEFINATELY be getting some cinnamon oils, lol! Thanks Sheila!
I love my eos and was wondering how to use them for a libido boost. I even bought some ylang ylang but would forget to use it topically. Great idea to just diffuse it in the room throughout the evening.
Just how good IS the ylang ylang? I have EXTREME anxiety and I am trying to wean off from Zoloft right now. Any other products useful for anxiety/high string persona?
There actually are some, Angie. I have a diffuser that I use, and if you google recipes for anxiety, you’ll probably find some with lavender and rosemary, and I find it quite lovely! Plus it smells nice. 🙂
Thank you! I totally need a diffuser. I’ve mixed some rosemary and peppermint and orange together to use topically but it’s not quite enough of an effect. I wish there was a cure for anxiety. It causes so many other problems too. ???? but I’m trying my best! ????
Hi Angie, there is an oil called Balance that has helped me a lot with my anxiety. But besides that… I have been going to a chiropractor for about 2 years. And have been anxiety free for at least a year… Probably closer to 18 months. Got off my meds very early on and everything. When the body is aligned correctly it does GREAT things!! Wishing you the best!
Hi Angie…I use oils called Serenity from Doterra and Peace and Calming from Young Living…they are wonderful for bringing a calmness. Great to rub on the bottom of your feet at night for a wonderful sleep. I also take Serenagen from Metagenics to help keep calm. But in the long run I found that I needed to get help from my Naturopath to get to the bottom of the anxiety. Homeopathy and chiropractic help. I truly hope you can find your way to get rid of anxiety as it limits what we do in life. A tool of the enemy for sure.
I loved this article! I find it helpful to put a couple of drops of ylang ylang on my pillow just on the side. It doesn’t stain my pillow at all and the smell lasts for several hours so I can enjoy during our evening chats and cuddles and other things:) I find that the rose absolute is very good for my anxiety and also tea, like chamomile or mint although usually mint is better for starting a day instead of ending one. I am getting a diffuser soon so this information was helpful, thanks!
Are there any oils which decrease libido? I have a much higher libido than my husband and it is very depressing and difficult for me.
Yes, I think there are some—although that’s really sad for you. Marjoram tends to decrease libido, but if it’s in the air, it will decrease HIS, too! So I’d apply on the bottoms of your feet. I’m sorry!
hi: is started to access your twitter as my wife does not read your blog v.much and thought it my be easier to show on my iphone but not really working. I think that the oils could help my wife but first of all is it ok for a man to comment – I already feel out of place and I for reasons cannot initiate but if could find help then maybe you could twitter her.
many thanks
dying in no arms of love
i like it 🙂
I had a hysterectomy and my libedo is gone completely. Is there any oils that would help?
Some of those definitely may–but I’d really recommend talking to your doctor about some creams that can help. Also check out my boost your libido course, where I give some good pointers, including about menopause!
Hi Sheila!
The use of essential oils to help support balanced hormones, increased libido, and also for use during sex is a topic that my essential oils friends & I are studying starting January 1st (in a private Facebook group – most of them Christian women, of all ages). The woman teaching the class is opening the group to ‘friends of friends’ just for the month of January. There will be a lot of great info, along with plenty of (tasteful!) humor, some homework, and some giveaways. We’re going to keep it fun! If you would like to join us or would just like more information about exactly what we’ll be studying, please email me. I think the information that’s going to be shared would be SO, SO helpful to so many of your readers! Happy, balanced hormones make for a happy mama and wife. And a healthy libido makes for a happy hubby and strong marriage!
I need an increase in linido. As an older woman, I need help in increase of sex drive. What do you suggest & how to use it. Thx eva
