Whenever I hear myself talk I cringe.
Especially when I hear myself laugh.
My husband says my voice is lovely, but I really don’t like it very much, which is rather inconvenient since I do so much speaking.
But more on that in a minute–including something so cool (I was on Focus on the Family! Woo hoo!).
First, though, here’s what was big on the blog this week–so you don’t miss anything!
What’s #1 at To Love, Honor and Vacuum
I’ve been trying to switch gears a little bit this week and talk about what we can do to change OURSELVES when it comes to marriage. Last week seemed dominated by posts on how to deal with a husband who is doing something wrong. But what if the problem is one of our own attitudes? So here’s what resonated:
#1 New Post on the Blog: My Husband Can’t Make Me Happy
#1 on the Blog: Two Player Games to Play with Your Husband
#1 on Facebook: Top 10 Effects of Porn on Your Marriage (seriously, such an important post! Glad it’s getting more views!)
#1 on Pinterest: Stocking Stuffers for Your Husband (wow, it’s not even Christmas yet! Bookmark this for later)
I Was on Focus on the Family!
Yay! It was such an honour to record at their studios in May, talking about To Love, Honor and Vacuum (the book). And then yesterday (Thursday the 13th) the interview aired!
If you missed it, you can listen here.
But I never listen to myself afterwards because I just don’t like my voice. So don’t tell me if you think my voice is funny, too. I’m already insecure enough. 🙂
My Book Launches on Tuesday…
I’ve been talking about it for two weeks now, but 9 Thoughts That Will Change Your Marriage is almost here! And I want to do some really fun things on Tuesday. I’ll tell you all about it on Monday, but I do want to make the day memorable. I just haven’t had a lot of time to think about this beforehand because of my daughter’s recent wedding.
So here’s where you can help me: I’m spending this weekend trying to figure out some great prizes I can offer people who submit their receipts for having bought my book.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Dinner with me sometime in the next two years (I’m planning on traveling all over most of North America, so I can make this happen)!
- A Kindle
- An Amazon gift card
- A library of all my books
- A bunch of other people’s books too!
- Me coming to speak at your church for free (I’ll waive the normal fee)
Which ones would you most want? Let me know in the comments! You can help me out, because I’m trying to figure out a grand prize, a few other big prizes, and then some smaller ones.
A New Way to Read My Bible That’s Working for Me
I shared on Tuesday 10 ways to bring more happiness into your life–part of Thought #3 in the book. How we can take responsibility for our own contentment rather than expecting our husbands to change our mood.
One of the things I shared was about finding one verse a day to meditate on.
So let me tell you something new I’ve done lately that’s really worked.
For years I’ve been trying to do my devotions in the morning, because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Right?
It’s odd, because one of the periods in my life when I was the most consistent about reading my Bible was as a teen–and I always read the Bible and journalled at night. But somehow it got into my head that we’re supposed to be doing devotions in the morning.
The problem was that I was always busy in the morning.
That’s problem #1.
Here’s problem #2: my husband and I realized that when we’re tired at night we watch way too much Netflix. We’ve changed that up by also going for walks every night, and also trying to play a game for 20 minutes or so (here’s a list of 2-player games we use). But that still leaves us watching a lot of TV.
So we’ve now limited ourselves to 1-2 episodes of something at night. Then we walk, play, and by 9 I curl up in my armchair with a nonfiction book, my journal, my devotional, and my Bible. And I read and write. And it’s great! Night time works so much better! And now I’m getting my nonfiction reading done, too.
(and yes, those are my comfy pyjamas).
The take home: do what works for you! Don’t feel like you have to fit anyone else’s mold.
Oh, and don’t waste all night on Netflix, either. 😉
Thank You for Praying for my Mom
I left a prayer plea on Facebook yesterday. My Mom’s at a children’s home in Kenya right now with a missions team. They arrived on Tuesday–but without 23 of 37 hockey bags, including her personal one but also tons of donations, with activities they were going to do with the kids.
I asked you to pray. Hundreds did!
A few hours later Mom sent me this picture…
Congratulations to Sarah M., Lindsey B., and Denae H who won my Rafflecopter giveaway! The prizes were Lovemaking (the book!), 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Mom by Arlene Pellicane, and a 10-book Healthy Living e-book bundle.
Thanks for entering!
