Recently I published a tiny bit of my book, The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex, in my post when we were talking about wedding nights.
But here’s even more!
If you’d like to read an excerpt, Zondervan, my publisher, has put up 47 pages that you can read right now! This is the introduction to the book–the part where I’m going over what sex is supposed to be about. Right after this part the book splits into three sections: one section on making the physical side of sex great, one on making the spiritual side of sex great, and one building your friendship and laughing through everything. Then, at the end, we put everything together to look at what a fun, exciting sex life is in marriage.
Do bad girls really have more fun? Surveys say no. The women who are most likely to enjoy sex are married and religious. In other words, they’re Good Girls!
But good girls know that making sex great isn’t about acting trashy. It’s about recognizing what God really designed sex for, and then learning how to reap all these benefits and joyfully enjoy your husband.
I wrote The Good Girls’ Guide to Great Sex to give newly engaged and new brides—and some veteran wives—a Christian resource to answer their most intimate, and embarrassing, questions. In a conversational style, with lots of humorous anecdotes, I show that sex isn’t just physical: it’s also an emotional and spiritual experience. And we’ll learn why commitment in a Christian marriage is the perfect recipe for a sex life which is out of this world!
Sheila writes like “a funny big sister”, says World Magazine.
While other books on sex from a Christian standpoint are written by men or couples, I tried to sound like that friend you can chat with.
And I deal with everything–how sex works physically, how to make sex spiritually intimate, and even what to do when you have small children hanging off of you all day.

Who should read this book?
I have a special chapter just for engaged women. So if you need to read something before your marriage, get The Good Girl’s Guide, and start your marriage off right!
But even veteran wives will learn something. And the main message: don’t settle for blah in the bedroom, when God created you for more! Here’s specifically who the book is aimed at:
-
- Engaged women–worried about your honeymoon? I tell you what to expect–in detail. But what if you’re not a virgin? Or you’ve got tons of baggage? I try to help you work through that, too, so that you can start your marriage fresh with a ton of excitement! Best of all, I teach you how to just relax, and not to get too uptight about what should, or shouldn’t, happen right when you get married.
- Newly Married women–Things not working as they’re supposed to? Are you wondering what all the fuss is about? I help you see sex in a new way–as something which is not just physical, but also emotional and spiritual, too. And she helps you figure out how to make things work more like clockwork in the bedroom.
- Women with questions–if you grew up thinking sex was dirty or bad, and wonder if you can ever actually anticipate sex, you need this book! Or perhaps you have questions about whether or not God can help you get over the baggage in your past–or your husband’s past. The Good Girl’s Guide has answers.
- Women whose husbands have problems–if your husband struggles with porn, or if he has a low libido, or if things just aren’t working well, I try to help you navigate through so that sex can become both fun and intimate.
- Women who just want some more excitement–sex was meant to be both fun and intimate. Need more fun in your life? I’ll show you how!
How is the Book Organized?
I spend the first two chapters talking about how God made men and women differently. Then I spend a chapter helping engaged women relax, and telling them what to expect. The book is then divided into the three areas of intimacy that sex entails: Physical intimacy, spiritual intimacy, and emotional intimacy. I take one chapter talking about how to make things work best in each of these areas, and then a chapter talking about what to do when things go wrong in this area. Finally, I end the book giving the complete survey results from the surveys she took of 2000 women. You won’t want to miss that great information!
Throughout the book, I also feature survey respondents giving little tidbits of wisdom in “A Good Girl Speaks”. And I’ve written my own “Good Girl Dares”, which I’ve sprinkled throughout to help you make your marriage sizzle.
Filled with lots of information, practical advice, and scriptural backing, I help you understand why God make sex the way He did, and how you can experience true fulfillment with your husband.

Here are just a few:
I’ve been married for nearly 17 years and wish I had this book on Day 1!
– Becky
This is a wonderful book! …She knows how to talk about such sensitive topics, and add humor, honesty, and most importantly from a Biblical view!
– Chris
What I found so refreshing about this book is that it is direct, honest, and REAL. Gregoire writes in a candid way that gets to the heart of what does (or doesn’t!) happen in the marital bed, and what we as wives can do to promote happy and healthy sex lives with our husbands.
– Mrs. HRT
This book is a must read for young virginal brides but it’s even more beneficial for women like me. I’ve been married for ten years and struggling with the idea that sex is shameful or dirty. This book has helped me to understand what a healthy Godly marriage should look like. This book along with prayer has helped tp reprogram my brain and bring new life to my marriage. I’d say that $10 for a book is much cheaped than a life time of therapy
– Mom of 2
I just got done reading this book and I loved it. The entire time I kept thinking, “I wish I had this book to read while growing up.” No one is my family ever talked about this kind of thing and I was completely clueless for my honeymoon and early marriage years. After reading this book, I was able to use all of the advice to help my sexual relationship with my husband. He was thrilled to know I was putting in the effort to learn more about that part of our relationship and how much I had grown by following the author’s advice.
– Jennifer Jennings
She describes in detail how to have GREAT SEX. Unfortunately, the churches of the past and present have misguided both men and women about getting knowing their bodies and the functions resulted misinformation. And boring sex lives.
Ms. Gregoire does an extraordinary job of sharing the wonders and joy of sexual pleasure between two people totally committed within the bond of marriage. She explains how to give pleasure and how to receive it. Making love and totally letting with each other is a holy, glorious act to be celebrated.
– Maxine Holmes
Sheila says:
It’s my prayer that God will use this book to help marriages thrive! I really struggled in this area of my marriage for years, and I know what it is to be confused, despondent, and wondering what all the fuss is about. But things have really turned around for me, and they can for you, too. This SHOULD be a fun part of your marriage. If it’s not, please read the book. Your marriage will thank you!

oh wow, great book so far! Can’t wait to read the whole thing! Thanks for taking the time and having the courage to put the “Christian perspective” out there, if people only knew how important sex in marriage is before they make too many mistakes they would have such a fufilling marriage! Thanks Sheila!!
You’re so welcome, Kristin! Thanks for the encouragement.
Great cover and preview Sheila. I think it’s going to be fantastic!
I know that it is meant for my dear wife and not for me, but I stole a peek anyway, and I have to say that you have hit the nail on the head with your chapter on ‘How Good Girls Understand Good Boys’. My main frustration is trying to get Gabriella (DW) to understand that I want to give her as much pleasure as I possibly can, and not have her treat lovemaking as another chore to be done.
On a more serious note, it sounds like it is the perfect present to give to a young woman who is getting married, especially in the UK where the churches seem to be scared to say anything that might offend even the most prudish in the congregation. I would get one for Gabriella, but. . . . it’s a bit like buying an overweight wife a diet book.
Too funny, Fred! And yes, my hope is that it will become a popular wedding shower gift to give to new brides–although I still firmly believe that married women can learn a lot, too (I sure did writing the book!).
And I’m glad you related to what I said in that chapter. It’s good to hear from a guy.
Thanks for making available such a generous preview. I’m sure it will be a hit, good luck!
Susane
You’re welcome, Susane!

Awesome, Kelly!
Great book! I am going to be posting my review (through Zondervan Blogger Club) on my blog later today! But thank you for writing a much needed book for not only couples but especially for women!
Thanks, Shirley! That’s so encouraging. I look forward to reading your review!
I loved the excerpt so much I just pre-ordered the book. I’m getting married at the end of the month; it’ll be good to get some insight. 🙂
